About Court of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic on Grave Crimes

Court of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic on Grave Crimes hears cases related to serious and especially serious acts of crimes in accordance with the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan within relevant territorial jurisdiction, as well as settles the issue of handover (extradition) of the persons who have committed crimes as specified in the legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Establishment of the Court

A number of decrees have been signed by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in connection with the upgrading of the court system in Azerbaijan. Thus, The Court on Cases of Serious Crimes of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic was established by the Decree No352 dated 19 January 2006 issued by the President of Azerbaijan. The court started functioning on 30 July 2007 with a panel of 3 judges. The name of the court was changed to Court of Serious Crimes of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic based on the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan No 1043-IIIDQ, dated 22 June 2010. The court covers the entire territory of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
