Astara District Court hears cases related to civil, criminal, administrative offenses and other cases within the territory of Astara district as a court of first instance.

About Astara district

Astara district is located in the south-east of the Republic of Azerbaijan and is part of the southern economic zone. Astara district was created in 1930 and it received the status of a city in 1945. In 1964, Astara District People’s Court (presently Astara District Court) was established. Astara district has a population of 98.683 (17 June 2011), and its total area is 616 km². The district is included in the southern economic zone and it has 1 city, 1 settlement and 91 villages. As a result of the aggressive policy of Armenian invaders, 46 IDPs making up 9 families are settled in Astara district. The district is located in 313 km of Baku and shares borders with the Islamic Republic of Iran from the south and west, as well as with Lenkoran district from the north and the Caspian Sea from the East.

Judges of Astara District Court and the equality of their status

Judges are persons with authorities as determined by law to make fair judgments.All judges of the Republic of Azerbaijan (president, deputy president, president of boards and judges) will have the same status, rights and responsibilities in hearing a case and be different from one another due to the procedure of appointment, power and term in office. With the exception of the decisions made in a Plenary Session of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan, every judge (except a judge who provides a specific opinion or votes against such a decision during the adoption of the decision) who took part in the adoption of all other collegial court decisions will be equally responsible.
