Aghsu District Court was founded in 1943.Aghsu district was established on 8 October 1943. The administrative center of the district - Aghsu city received the status of a city type settlement by 1967, while that year it gained the status of a city. It shares borders with Ismayilli in the west and north west, Shamakhi in the north west and east, Kurdemir and Hajigabul districts in the south. Its total area is 1020 sq km, and it has a population of 69.4 thousand.

The district has 1 city (Aghsu city), and 78 villages. These residential units embrace 24 territorial executive representative offices and 32 municipalities. 49,1% of the population is men and 50.9% women. 99% of the population is Azerbaijanis and 1% lezgins, turks and others. 25,7% of the population live in the city and 74.3% in villages.There are 2068 refugees and internally displaced persons settled in the district. They have come from Armenia, Uzbekistan and our occupied districts.
