Sheki Court of Appeal hears, as a court of appeal, appeals and appeal protests made under court acts on the cases heard by the courts of first instance assigned to its territorial jurisdiction. Sheki Court of Appeal is comprised of a civil board, administrative-economical board, criminal board and military board.

Establishment of Sheki Court of Appeal

A three-instance court system – courts of first instance, courts of appeal and cassation was created in Azerbaijan as a result of one of the initial outcomes of the judicial legal reforms implemented with the leadership and close involvement of the national leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev: - first instance, - appeal instance,- cassation.This system moved into a new stage with the Decree dated 19 January 2006 issued by Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, on modernization of the judiciary in the Republic of Azerbaijan and the implementation of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “on Making amendments to certain legislative acts of the Republic of Azerbaijan”.

Sheki Court of Appeal began to function from 16 July 2007.Sheki Court of Appeal is a court of high instance comprised of a Presidium, civil board, administrative-economical board, criminal board and military board.Boards of Sheki Court of Appeal hear cases on the appeals and appeal protests made from the decisions taken by the courts of first instance assigned to their territorial jurisdiction as a court of appeal.
