Center for Innovations in Education

Founded in 2004, The Center for Innovations in Education (CIE) is an Azerbaijani NGO based in Baku that works to provide all children access to quality education and social support. Our main program areas are inclusion and social justice in education and using a whole-school approach in educational reform.The Open Society Institute - Assistance Foundation (OSI-AF) assisted in our establishment. As our first initiative, CIE managed the early childhood education program, Step by Step (SbS), and the teaching methodology and professional development program, Reading and Writing for Critical Thinking (RWCT). Both have become critical tools for reform and debate in education in Azerbaijan.CIE is a leading association for provision of equal and quality education in Azerbaijan.Our mission is to promote every child’s right to quality education through social inclusion, excellence in teaching and active parent involvement.

Activity of the Center for Innovations in Education

CIE implements innovative pilot and service projects, conducts research, and develops school curricula, training courses, and materials for teachers, all in the name of improving access and quality of education for every child.CIE has been instrumental in establishing programs for inclusive education, pre- and in-service teacher training, education against corruption, community mobilization, active community schools, school improvement, parent education and parent advocacy.CIE's current projects include two community-based preschool initiatives in Shamkir, Lankaran, Bilasuvar, Siyazan, and Sumgayit, the development of a university course on inclusive education for future teachers, the creation of education and social policy think tank in partnership with the Center for Social Policy Development, and multiple tenders through the Azerbaijan Ministry of Education.
