About Azerikimya Production Union

On the basis of a Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan of April 2, 2010 "Concerning Improvements in the Petrochemical Industry's Management System", the "Azerikimya" State-Owned Company was transferred to SOCAR.According to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan of April 22, 2010 "Amending Decree No. 844 "Concerning Improvements in the Structure of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic" of 22 January 2003", the "Azerikimya" Production Union has been established within SOCAR. The Syndicate has an ethylene-polyethylene plant, a surfactants plant, an organic synthesis plant, a machinery maintenance plant, a chemical engineering institute, a repair and construction division, a transportation and special equipment division, and a storage facility.

Activities of Azerikimya Production Union

The Syndicate's plants have the following capacities: ethylene-polyethylene plant - 260,000 tons of ethylene per year, 136,000 tons of propylene per year, 156,000 tons of polypropylene per year, 25,000 tons of industrial isopropyl alcohol per year, and 1,750 tonnes of absolute di-isopropyl alcohol per year. The organic synthesis plant can produce 15,000 tons of propylene oxide per year, 8,000 tons of propylene glycol, and 10,800 tons of polyester resins. The surfactants plant can produce 41,00 tons of caustic soda, 36,300 tons of chlorine, 8,000 tons of sulfuric acid, and 2,500 tons of sodium carbonate.

According to the syndicate's long-term development plan, upgrades will be made and involve the replacement of older facilities with state-of-the-art plants that meet international standards. The variety and quality of the syndicate's products will also be improved. Plans call for building a chemical industrial park for the Syndicate in the near future, which will contribute to the country's economic development and provide jobs for young people.

Studies for upgrading the EP-300 and Polymer-120 units at the ethylene-polyethylene plant have been conducted. After the studies are completed, plans call for replacing both units' obsolete equipment with state of the art equipment during the upgrade.The long-term development plan also calls for preparations for the construction of a new recycled water cooling unit and a nitrogen and oxygen generating plant. At the same time, plans call for the construction of a new nitrogen and carbamide fertilizer plant as part of the Government's agriculture promotion program. Currently the necessary engineering work is underway.
